Lions lose to Packers, become first 0-16 team in NFL history

Associated Press

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Detroit Lions own a distinction no team wants: worst in NFL history.

Facing one last chance to avoid their dubious destiny, the Lions lost Sunday's season finale to the Green Bay Packers 31-21 to complete the league's first 0-16 season. The 1976 expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14) were the last NFL team to complete a season without a victory.

It didn't come without a fight. After falling behind 24-14 midway through the fourth quarter, Kevin Smith's 9-yard touchdown run put Detroit back within a field goal.
But Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers responded with a 71-yard touchdown pass to Donald Driver, and the Lions' Dan Orlovsky threw an interception on fourth-and-27 with three minutes left, dooming Detroit to futility of historic proportion.

The Lions were building toward this for years and have now lost 23 of their last 24 games. The 0-16 record will be a lasting testimony to the Matt Millen era. With Millen as president of the team from 2001 until he was fired on Sept. 24, Detroit won just 31 games -- none this season, of course.

Indeed, the Lions haven't won since Dec. 23, 2007, when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Green Bay is where this woeful streak began at the end of last season. Since then, the Lions have lost 17 straight and have been outscored 551-281.

Coach Rod Marinelli has gone 10-38 in three seasons. His future hasn't been announced, but team owner William Clay Ford has decided the leaders of the front office, Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand, will be back in some capacity.

Orlovsky was 22-of-42 passing for 225 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Lions, whose bid to stay out of the record book came undone in large part because of two ill-advised penalties.

Rodgers was 21-of-31 passing for 308 yards and three touchdowns for the Packers (6-10), and Ryan Grant rushed for 106 yards.
Trailing 14-7 early in the third quarter, Lions punter Nick Harris pinned the Packers at their 10-yard line. Safety Kalvin Pearson then put a hard hit on Grant to cause a fumble and recovered the ball at the Green Bay 11.

Calvin Johnson caught a pass from Orlovsky in the flat and broke three tackling attempts to score a tying 14-yard touchdown with 10:20 left in the third quarter.

But the Packers put together a 12-play, 62-yard drive for a 36-yard field goal by Mason Crosby. After a three-and-out by Detroit's offense, Lions linebacker Ernie Sims' penalty for a late hit out of bounds on Grant played a key role on a drive that ended with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to fullback John Kuhn.

The Lions weren't finished, as Orlovsky used two long completions to John Standeford to set up Smith's touchdown with 8:34 left. After the ensuing kickoff, Rodgers reared back and threw deep to Driver, who blew past Lions cornerback Leigh Bodden and ran in for a touchdown.

Orlovsky led the Lions back into Packers territory, but a taunting penalty on Smith moved Detroit back near midfield, and Orlovsky threw an interception to Nick Collins.

Detroit fell behind 14-0 as Orlovsky managed a measly 9 passing yards in the first quarter. But the Lions' defense showed some fight early before allowing backup running back DeShawn Wynn to score on a 73-yard touchdown.

Rodgers also threw a fade to rookie tight end Jermichael Finley in the end zone for a 14-0 lead.

Detroit scored early in the second quarter, a 9-yard touchdown from Orlovsky to Johnson on third-and-goal.

Leafs Raise the Number 17 to the Rafters!
Updated Saturday 13 December 2008 - 22:25:00 by eVo

This was done on Nov.22, 2008 but I was in Canada with no internet to post it.

Wendel Clark figures he's completed the career hat trick.

The former Maple Leafs captain watched his No. 17 raised to the rafters at Air Canada Centre on Saturday night, completing a journey that started when the team drafted him first overall in 1985.

Clark's 15-year NHL career took him to other cities but his heart always remained in Toronto. Seeing his banner beside Leaf legends like Frank Mahovlich, Turk Broda and George Armstrong was the crowning achievement of his time in hockey.

"Several years ago when I retired as a player, I stated the two proudest moments of my hockey career were when I was drafted first overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs and second, the day I was named captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs," Clark said during a brief speech. "Tonight's the official hat trick."

He's the 16th player to be honoured by the blue and white, although the only two jerseys officially retired by the team are Bill Barilko's No. 5 and Ace Bailey's No. 6.

Clark is a former No. 1 overall draft pick that quickly developed into one of the most popular players in franchise history.

He had three different stints with the Maple Leafs and remains employed by the team as a community ambassador. Clark often played a reckless style of game during his prime — demonstrating as much willingness to check and fight as he did to trying to score.

The physical side of his game was highlighted during a video montage that was shown before Clark's banner was raised. Fans cheered loudest for shots of him fighting former heavyweights Marty McSorley and Bob Probert along with the famous clip of him knocking out St. Louis Blues defenceman Bruce Bell with a devastating hit behind the goal.

The sellout crowd gave Clark a standing ovation as he, wife Denise and their three children walked to centre ice following the video.

"I thank you the fans of Toronto," said Clark. "You're the greatest fans in the world. (This is) the greatest place to play hockey."

The tributes for Clark went beyond the banner raising.

The Leafs players took the warmup in vintage Clark jerseys and many fans in the stands wore stick-on handlebar moustaches that were given out at the door along with Clark bobbleheads.

There was also a couple days of lead-up where several people associated with the Leafs revisited Clark's injury-shortened career. He produced 330 goals and 564 points during 793 NHL games but left a legacy that went beyond the numbers.

"He was an ultimate team type player," said Leafs coach Ron Wilson. "If anybody on the team was violated, you got an instant response from Wendel Clark. A physical player who had surprising ability to be able to score. ...

"I could imagine having a guy like that on your team. I think every coach wants a couple of guys who play like Wendel Clark."

The organization will honour another former captain before the end of the season. Doug Gilmour's No. 93 will be raised to the roof in a ceremony on Jan. 31.

Special Thank you video by a fan.
Punkbuster Get Punked?
Updated Sunday 07 December 2008 - 18:07:49 by eVo
So I am reading that PunkBuster is sucking because of a hack. And they will not fix it at all. Almost all the anti-cheat sites are now considering closing, due to the fact that a massive security hole in PB has been exploited and innocent people are being effected.

Its a case of hackers using a server and sending false information to PBBans, Punksbusted, Game Violations every single 3rd part streaming service is 100% effective in this crysis. What this means is the person who controls the specific server has access to send your information to the 3rd party site resulting in you getting banned.

PBBans are already talking about closing down to keep innocent players being banned.

Some links you may want to check out are:

The kick in the ass on this subject for me is, that I had to buy COD4 a second time because I got banned for no reason at all on the first one I bought. I am not saying that this is what happened to me, but it is possible. They said I tryed to block PB from doing its job. A firewall could of done it and they could careless. Anyways, the whole thing was just BS. I have not and never will cheat/hack in a game that I play.

Well, I will try and update this story as it unfolds.
